VP, Information Technology, Portland

Our client is looking for a VP of Information Technology in Portland, OR. You will own, lead, and manage the technology for over 35 branches. There are approximately 30 people on your team. You will create the technology strategy for the next 5 years, tie the strategy back to the specific needs of the business as well as lead the data governance initiative. This includes leading the design, installation, and maintenance of the network, servers, telephone and hardware. You will build the infrastructure roadmap based on performance metrics, technology trends and consultant/VAR input. You will recommend changes and upgrades to provide efficient, effective, timely and secure service to users.  You will ensure compliance with all information systems and technology regulatory requirements and supervise and respond to all information systems and technology audits. They are also starting a core conversion so you will be a part of that as well. It’s critical to understand the business needs, translate into technology and how they intersect. You are the ambassador for the technology as well as the team.

Fast forward a year, what will you be doing?

You have built a consistent framework along with consistent processes across the IT organization. You are fully engaged in the hearts and minds of the team, adding value to not just the team but the entire organization. You have built out the technology strategy for the next 5 years. You have tied the strategy back to the specific needs of the business. You have created and are leading the data governance initiative. You have observed the needs of the team and the business, to create a high performing team that is adding value to the business. You are a great listener. You are a respected and sought-after leader and mentor. You are happy.

How will you get there?

30 days:

  • Meet the leadership team as well as your team

  • Start to assess the capabilities of your team

  • Start to develop a story around where they are now with framework maturity

  • Introduced to the core conversion project

 

90 days:

  • Good understanding of the capabilities of the team; you understand the strengths and have identified areas of growth

  • Visited some of the largest branches, working with branch managers on the technologies in use

  • Working with the Executive team on technical concepts

  • Identified the appropriate technology framework and created the 1st draft of the plan

  • Partnering with the core conversion lead, assisting and developing as needed

6 months:

  • 1st draft of the 5-year technology strategy is complete

  • Have taken over the current project list, prioritized an executing it

  • Established yourself as a respectable team leader and team player

 

What you will need:

  • Successfully managed and grown technical teams

  • Demonstrated understanding of technical concepts and challenge technical decisions

  • Banking or financial institution experience

  • Have worked with institutions with over $15M in assets

  • Actively involved in regulatory exams, broad knowledge of banking principals and applicable regulatory controls

  • Advanced working knowledge of data security principles

  • Excellent organization, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong understanding of technology infrastructure and compliance
