Payroll Manager- Seattle

Our client is looking for a Payroll Manager in Seattle that will manage and run payroll for the organization. This is a fantastic opportunity to help a wonderful company overhaul their payroll operations. They are at an exciting time; our client will be restructuring their 9 of their companies.

As the Payroll Manager, you will have a critical impact on the organization. You will lead and efficiently deliver the payroll services, payroll tax administration. You will ensure the payroll processing is timely, accurate, and compliant. You will provide accounting and reporting support. You will proactively troubleshoot and develop solutions to further the efforts toward continuous process improvements and internal controls. You are both strategic as well as hands on. You will liaise between internal teams, external partners and third-party vendors as well as develop team members in order to optimize operational excellence. You will support and provide leadership for 2 distinct entities. You will manage the implementation and operational workflow of administrative procedures as related to Pay, Tax, and Time and evaluate compensation policies and practices to ensure they are accurate and comply with internal policies and practices for multi-state and federal law. You will also manage the functional aspects of supporting systems and solutions. You are the subject-matter expert for all payroll matters, providing expertise on complex issues.

Fast forward a year, what will you have achieved?

You have well documented procedures for payroll as well as created redundancies on the team. There are lots of opportunities to create efficiencies on the team so you will have reviewed, prioritize, documented and implemented those. You will have completed an audit report. Right now, they are on PeopleSoft but will be implementing Workday. You will be instrumental in that implementation, partnering with the internal team as well as the vendor. You have created audit reports. You have implemented best practices for pre & post payroll. You have identified any errors & created processes to solve them. You have a great relationship with your team. You partner with the compensation & benefits team to have a highly collaborative relationship.  You own all of Payroll. You are a respected leader in the organization. You are happy.

30 days:

  • Meet your team

  • Cross train with the interim manager/consultant

  • Access to all the systems

  • You are learning both organizations, understanding the specific nuances of each

 

90 days:

  • Reviewed & analyzed the audit report

  • Assessed the team, identified strengths & gaps

  • Understand all the processes, identified gaps, starting to prioritize & formulate the new processes

  • Hired another specialist or analyst for the team

6 months:

  • Understand the potential merger impact of Seattle Cancer Care Alliance

  • Created a roadmap for the updated processes

  • Established efficiencies that align with the business goals

What you will need:

  • Certified Payroll Professional

  • Strong understanding of HRIS

  • Experience working with Workday, Oracle or Peoplesoft

  • Ideally you’ve gone through an implementation of a new payroll/HR system

  • Created best practices to improve efficiencies of the team as well as built redundancies for the team

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Successfully managed teams

  • Ability to meet strict deadlines

  • Strong experience in Excel; ability to use complex query & report writing tools

  • Expertise in federal & state payroll, wage & hourly regulations

  • Strong customer focus centric mindset with the finesse to work across all levels of the business
